Looks like a lot of amateur photographers started to add a watermark to their photos. Clearly, is a way to protect them from illicit use, is perfectly reasonable. But are we sure is paying off?
I am pretty sure that the dream of every photographer is to become a top one. To be published. To be acknowledged. To live for photography.
But actually, how you can become a top photographer? Is just a technique issue?
Setup a photographer blog in 2021 is quite an easy process, there are a lot of useful platforms that will help you achieve your goal. Is an easy job. But...don't trust who says is "so easy"! Sure, you can just create a blog, upload your photos, and think you're done. But this will be like being a leaf in the forest. Nobody will notice you, you'll have just a link to add in your bio. Maybe is this your purpose. And you are right.
If you want to be a pro photographer, you must have an online portfolio where to show your work. But, if you want to compete in the photographer's world, if you want to stand over the best ones, you need also to invest time and money in it. So, let's see which options we have
Most of the photographers around the world started their job/hobby buying a camera and getting practice. It's normal. Is what everybody does. From the best professional photographers to the beginners.
The second step is probably to share your photo in the community you like, to understand if people like your works.
The third step is usually to start exploring for other photographers. What they do, where, how. That's good. Studying and maybe copying other's technique is a good step to improve. But then? Hardly your photos will stand out over others. Sad but true. Not because you are not good, but because there are so many photographers in the world. This is probably the job with most competitors in the world!
But is not the end
One of the most common questions about each photography style is "which lenses should I buy if I want to deal with xxx photography?"
Our answer is this
You are an amateur photographer. So nobody pays for your photos. You may sell some photo on photostocks websites (but this means usually adapting your photo style to sell more) or you can expose you photo on socials (but will some likes fill you ego?). Or you start photo competitions. That looks like the new goal for most photographers in 2021. Not for the prizes, but for the Ego. Here is some useful link if you want to start challenging yourself
You are a photographer. You like to express yourself with photos. Logic says that you should open an Instagram account to grow your audience/business. But...is it worth it? Maybe. But is not so easy. If your name is already well known, probably it will be easier to standup over the million of photographers of Instagram. Otherwise it will be a really long long road, full of frustrations
Don't buy $ 2000 equipment just to shoot the moon. It's plenty of moon pictures out there. If you really want to have your picture of the moon, take it as an exercise. It will develop your photographer brain.
We have a desire. We want to talk about photography, without using photos. We want to tell stories. We want to listen stories. Is this possible?
